As we celebrate Women’s History Month this March, it’s the perfect time to highlight the impact of strong female leaders—like Amy Klinge, KASCO’s new Senior HR Director. With a career built on leadership, collaboration, and a passion for empowering others, Amy brings valuable experience and a fresh perspective to our team.
Finding Her Passion for HR
Amy considered going into human resources, but it wasn’t a widely offered college major at the time. She earned a bachelor’s degree in English but also enjoyed her business and psychology classes. Early in her career, she naturally took on HR-related responsibilities like recruiting, benefits, and employee relations. That hands-on experience led her to discover her true calling.
Why KASCO?
After working at large corporations, Amy was drawn to KASCO’s size and impact.
“In larger companies, it’s harder to make a real difference,” she shared. “KASCO gives me the opportunity to truly connect with people and influence the company’s success in a meaningful way.”
Her Leadership Philosophy
Amy describes her leadership style as open, collaborative, and built on trust.
“I believe in trusting people from the start,” she said. “I always go in with a ‘glass half full’ mindset and hope it stays that way.”
Reflections on Women’s History Month
Having spearheaded several women’s initiatives throughout her career, Amy values the recognition that Women’s History Month brings.
“I honestly think about women’s impact every day—not just for a month,” she said. “But I do appreciate that it gives us a moment to pause and reflect on everything women have contributed to the workforce. Having a daughter in college has really heightened my perspective on this, too.”
Mentors and Career Advice
Amy credits both female and male mentors for shaping her career, learning valuable lessons from each. When it comes to giving advice, she encourages women to think beyond just moving up the ladder.
“Don’t be afraid to move up, down, or sideways in your career,” she advised. “Some of the best leaders aren’t just those who climb straight to the top—they’re the ones who take lateral moves to build a well-rounded skill set.”
A Fun Fact You Might Not Expect
Amy has a unique story—her parents didn’t actually name her!
“I’m the youngest of nine kids, and when I was born, my oldest sibling was graduating from high school. As a gift, my parents let him name me. He chose Amy Michelle – and I love it.”
The Best Career Advice She’s Ever Received
One of the most important lessons Amy has learned is about going after what you want versus hoping that it finds you.
“Several years ago, my position was eliminated. A mentor suggested that, rather than applying for dozens of jobs, seek out 3-5 companies that you want to work for and then go after them. I thought this was a great perspective because applying for job after job is emotionally overwhelming.”
With Amy’s leadership and passion for people, we’re excited to see how she helps shape KASCO’s culture and future.
